I am considering moving my boat from NW Scotland to explore the Irish Sea area. Looking for somewhere nearer to home in Yorkshire to keep the boat over winter and then sail from in the following season. Can reach the likes of Feetwood, Preston and Conway in about 2 hours from home so I see it being better than the 8 hours travel currently to Oban. The Conway marinas appear very expensive compared with Scotland, but have good hinterland to explore and a short hop to sheltered Mani Straits allowing for day sailing. However, remain unsure which of the many havens to explore the Irish Sea area from. Currently have to put boat on hard each winter, and would favour a haven where she would be sheltered enough to leave in water over winter months. Cumbrian, Lancashire or North Wales all under consideration.
I see many of you have boats based in this area. Can any of you give me some insight as which of the havens I should be considering.
