    Hi Folks,

Fairly new to sailing (after a 20y break) but having a passion for beautiful boats and I got my eyes on a beautiful old Malin needing some TLC on the following items:

    – Genoa damaged (needing  replacement)

    – Aging sails (all of them) needing replacement

Now the Malin isn’t the most typical boat around (hence my intention to get her a proper revamp) and before my sailing mate and I start working on it, we are curious if there are any specific precautions we need to take care of when it comes to replacing the genoa and sails?

    – Can we just order the three new sails based on the dimensions or is there a standard outlet to get them anywhere pre-made for that boat type? If so, where can we order then? If not, and we have to go the custom order route, what do we need to take into account (also any price indications – very important )?

I realize this might become quite a project but better restore a beautiful older lady than getting the latest ready-to-use hull, or am I mistaken?

Thanks for any pointers into the right direction?

    Thanks!

    Michael

    Hi Michael

You may be best measuring the sails you have as rigging has often been replaced/ modified. Although there are many sailmakers out there Jeckells ( see add on back of journal) have the standard sizes and from experience produce good quality sails. Sometimes you can get older sails recut/ refurbished at less cost.

let us know how you get on

    Peter
