Self steering

I am considering installing self steering to my Seaforth 36, using the Raymarine EV-100 Wheel Pilot Pack system fitted to the wheel.  Does anyone have experience of the effectiveness of this type of system, particularly as my steering is rather heavy?  Thank you

I have fitted an EV 1 to my Mac malin and for the money they are rubbish, much better with a hydraulic version directly from the rudder stock. Put it this way, I wouldn’t fit another one. Good luck with your choice 👍

. When I contacted Force 4 they said the same as you.  I think I will just have to remain at the helm all the time!  Best wishes Charles

I have a Raymarine hydraulic autopilot which is brilliant. I had it fitted when I changed the steering to a hydraulic system as the cable system didn’t feel up to it

The only disadvantage of hydraulic steering is that it is can be rather lifeless and almost too easy with little effort.  I am in the process of fitting a rudder angle indicator as you can oversteer if you’re not sure and can’t feel where the rudder is . I still prefer it to the original cable setup .
