I am considering purchasing a 1972 Mac Rowan 22, asking e4200. The port bulkhead board shows #357320 rt3 83/100. Name is “Arabella Argos”. She has a single long keel and also comes with a bowsprit and a 5 hp outboard, the diesel having seized and been removed. Before I can travel to inspect I have some questions. The current owner has had the boat for 15 years and it was as it is now, when he purchased it.

Was it common to remove the twin bilge keels? How does that effect righting moment or performance? Were bowsprits fitted new or always modifications? What difference does the bowsprit make and does it require a high cut foresail? Should I keep the Mercury 5hp two stroke o/b or consider a new/renovated diesel?

    Thank you in anticipation.
